I wrote this for The Salt Collective after the death of Eric Garner and the subsequent acquittal of the man who killed him. I wrote this on December 3, 2014.
It is May 28, 2020, and these words still ring true.
“There is no clearer image for racism as sin than the gut-wrenching death that was caught on tape. I can’t imagine squeezing the life right out of someone. How do human hands do that? You must not have any regard of the person you are killing as a person.”
